August 08, (THEWILL) – Turkish football club Fenerbahçe is looking to strengthen its midfield by signing Nigerian international, Wilfred Ndidi, from English side Leicester City.
Fenerbahçe have reportedly submitted an offer of €8 million plus bonuses for the 26-year-old defensive midfielder. According to Turkish daily Yeni Şafak, Fenerbahçe is ready to compete with rival Turkish club Galatasaray to acquire Ndidi’s services. To assist with making a firm decision about a transfer this summer, Ndidi has contacted former Fenerbahçe players, Joseph Yobo and Emmanuel Emenike, about joining the Istanbul-based club.
With just one year remaining on his contract at Leicester, who were recently relegated from the Premier League, Ndidi seems open to leaving this summer. Yobo and Emenike previously represented Fenerbahçe during their playing days, and Ndidi wants to sample their opinions on the prospect of joining the club. The Turkish side intends to beef up their midfield options with the addition of the Nigerian and Nicolás Domínguez from Bologna.
If signed, Ndidi will join fellow Nigerian, Bright Osayi-Samuel, at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. At the moment, Ndidi has attracted interest from Galatasaray, Nottingham Forest and an unnamed Saudi Pro League side. Securing his signature would strengthen Fenerbahçe’s chances both domestically and in European competitions next season.
