September 13, (THEWILL) – Following an inquiry into the workplace culture of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, the NBA has suspended Robert Sarver, the main owner, for one year and a $10 million fine was also imposed by the league on the organisation.

This is a result of what the inquiry termed “workplace misconduct and organisational deficiencies”, discovered during an NBA investigation into allegations made against him.

Following an ESPN report detailing allegations of racism and misogyny against Sarver, the league opened an investigation last November. The report claimed that during Sarver’s 17-year tenure as owner, he fostered a “toxic” work environment within the Suns’ organisation.

According to the NBA, Sarver “engaged in instances of inequitable conduct towards female employees, made many sex-related comments in the workplace, made inappropriate comments about the physical appearance of female employees and other women, and on several occasions engaged in inappropriate physical conduct towards male employees.”

The 60-year-old also “engaged in demeaning and harsh treatment of employees, including yelling and cursing at them.”
