January 25, (THEWILL) – The Nasarawa State government has issued a three-match ultimatum to the management and technical crew of Nasarawa United due to their poor performance in the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Eche Amos, the state Ministry of Youths and Sports Development spokesperson, announced this ultimatum on Tuesday in Lafia. According to Amos, the ultimatum was issued to save the club from impending relegation at the end of the season.

Lucky Yargwa, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, issued the ultimatum after a meeting between the ministry and management of the club on Monday in Lafia. Yargwa informed the club management that the club’s poor run had disheartened the state government and citizens despite the government’s huge commitment to the club.

“The governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule is not happy with the performance of the team this season, and he didn’t hide his feelings as he vented his displeasure shortly after the loss to Akwa United on Sunday,” Yargwa was quoted as saying. He went on to list the club’s fixture against Plateau United on February 1 at home, and Shooting Stars on February 5, in Ibadan as games the club must win.

He expressed hope that the ultimatum would return the team to their glorious status, the failure of which may leave the state government with the option of taking further drastic measures.
