August 29, (THEWILL) – Romelu Lukaku has completed a move to Napoli from Chelsea for a reported €30 million fee. The Belgian striker signed a three-year contract with the Serie A club, marking his third Italian team in as many years following loan spells at Inter Milan and Roma.
Napoli owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis, confirmed the transfer on social media, welcoming Lukaku to the club. The move reunites the 31-year-old forward with coach Antonio Conte, under whom Lukaku won the Serie A title with Inter Milan in 2021.
The transfer ends Lukaku’s difficult period at Chelsea, where he struggled to meet expectations following his big-money return in 2021. His high transfer fee had made it challenging for Chelsea to sell him permanently, resulting in loan moves over the past two seasons.
Napoli, currently 11th in Serie A, have brought in Lukaku to add to their attacking depth and improve upon last season’s disappointing title defence. The striker’s arrival may also serve as preparation for the potential departure of Victor Osimhen, who is reportedly considering a move to Saudi Arabia.
Conte stated that Lukaku will be included in the squad for Napoli’s upcoming match against Parma, provided he has no physical issues. The Belgian international, who remains his country’s all-time top scorer with 85 goals in 119 appearances, will aim to revive his club career in Naples.
