August 25, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have accepted a €30 million bid from Napoli for midfielder, Scott McTominay, in a transfer deal that includes a sell-on clause. Napoli, now managed by former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss, Antonio Conte, will proceed to discuss personal terms with McTominay.
McTominay’s potential departure comes after 22 years with Manchester United. The 27-year-old Scotland international came through the club’s academy and has made 255 senior appearances, scoring 29 goals. His current contract at Old Trafford expires in 2025, with United holding a one-year extension option.
The Red Devils are reportedly targeting Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement for McTominay. Recent reports suggest the club is making progress in negotiations to sign the Uruguayan midfielder. Meanwhile, Napoli is also in talks with Brighton and Hove Albion regarding McTominay’s Scotland teammate, Billy Gilmour.
The transfer news comes after United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday, in which both McTominay and Gilmour featured. United have been open to selling McTominay in recent years, but only on their own terms, having rejected advances from West Ham last summer.
Jadon Sancho might also be on his way out of United, with Juventus showing interest in the winger. Sancho has been left out of the matchday squad for United’s first two English Premier League games of the 2024 season, fueling speculation about his future at the club.
