June 21, (THEWILL) – Former world number one, Andy Murray, is determined not to “overreact” following his unexpected straight-sets loss in the opening round of the Queen’s Club Championships.
The 36-year-old Scot suffered a 6-3 6-1 defeat against Alex de Minaur, ending his hopes of securing a seeding at Wimbledon. Murray, a three-time Grand Slam winner, said: “Obviously after today, it’s easy to overreact… But at the same time, over the past couple of weeks, yes, it’s obviously not the same level of opponents, but I won the (Nottingham Open) last week without dropping a set.”
The setback aside, Murray was quick to highlight the positive signs in his recent performances, having won back-to-back grass court titles at the Surbiton Trophy and Nottingham Open this month. Murray, who has triumphed at Queen’s a record five times, approached the match with confidence after his recent successes on the grasscourt.
The Scot skipped tournaments during the claycourt swing to focus solely on the upcoming grass court season, aiming for his third Wimbledon title. With a current world ranking of 38, Murray remains committed to regaining his form and preparing for the prestigious grasscourt Grand Slam. The Wimbledon tournament is scheduled to take place from July 3 to 16 this year.
