November 10, (THEWILL) – Andy Murray has ended his coaching relationship with Ivan Lendl for the third time after a challenging 2022 season for the former world number one.
The British star won all three of his Grand Slam titles with Lendl by his side in their first two stints together. They reunited in March 2021, but despite Murray returning to the top 50 after years of hip problems, he has not achieved the results he desired at major tournaments.
“Ivan has been there during the biggest moments of my career and I can’t thank him enough for all he’s helped me accomplish,” said the 36-year-old. “He understands what it takes to win and I’ve learned so much from him over the years.”
Murray secured two Wimbledon titles, the 2012 US Open, and two Olympic golds while working with Lendl. Travel from Lendl’s American home reportedly was an issue in the split.
“I’ll have great memories of our time together,” commented 8-time Slam winner Lendl. “Andy is as hard a worker as there is and the sport is better for him. I wish him the best going forward.”
Murray, now ranked 42nd, will continue working with Mark Hilton and Jonny O’Mara. He is set to represent Britain in the Davis Cup quarterfinals against Serbia this month.
