Multiple Explosions Hit Maiduguri Housing Estate

December 04, (THEWILL) – At least one house was severely damaged as explosions in the early hours of Saturday rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The estate is about 1.20 kilometers from Maiduguri Air Force Base and 2.40 kilometers from the city’s airport.

Although, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack but terror group, Boko Haram, reportedly launched mortars at the estate on Saturday morning.

A top security source said the rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), were fired from Duwari area hitting a house located in 1000 Housing Estate, situated at the outskirts of Maiduguri.

Two other rockets were also fired towards the Gomari area and 777 Housing Estate.

However, it was not immediately clear if there were casualties. But a video from the incident at the 1000 Housing Estate showed shattered glasses as well as collapsed and damaged sections of the house.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosions started very early with the first two exploding at Gomari airport and the third one landing in a building at one thousand housing estate near Hajj Transit Camp where the repentant Boko Haram insurgents are being housed.

Mallam Kulima, one of the victims whose houses were among those hit by the explosions, said, he has all to give God the glory for sparing his lives and that of his family, as no life was lost.

“It was indeed a very sad day at 1000 housing estate, Maiduguri, Borno State, as Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) landed in my house number 2589, El Kanemi street.

“I was in my room when the Rocket landed in my wife’s room. Some of my family members who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the nearby clinic for treatment,” Kulima said.

Also, a resident in the estate, Adamu Audu, who confirmed the incident, said, “I heard the first explosion early in the morning and then the second one, then I came out to see where it was happening before the third one landed in our estate.”

“I saw when it landed and I immediately laid on the ground. The moment it landed in the house, the whole place became dark with dust and smoke.

“The fourth one landed Elsewhere but it was not as heavy as the first three. The first two landed in Gomari very close to the Airforce Base.”

In October, gunfire and artillery projectile launch was heard around the Pompomari, 777 and 1000 Housing Estates area.
