October 21, (THEWILL) – Stella Maris Okafor, wife of ailing Nigerian actor, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has called out the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) for lying about providing support to her husband even before his medical condition.
After Mr Ibu and his family publicly appealed for financial help in a video via Instagram, which brought on a storm of criticism against the AGN, accusing them of turning a blind eye to his plight, Kate Henshaw, the AGN’s Director of Communications, stepped up to bat for the guild, vehemently refuting all allegations of neglect.
Yet, in an unforeseen and heated twist, Mr. Ibu’s wife, her voice seething with anger and distress, declared that the AGN had never offered them support, accusing them of spreading blatant falsehoods.
She revealed that neither had she gotten support from the union prior to her husband’s health challenge nor had her efforts to reach the Guild yielded any positive response.
Stella mentioned that it was only after she publicly appealed for support that Emeka Rollas and Kate Henshaw showed up at the hospital to visit her husband in his ailing state.
“I am not happy at all. AGN came to be talking about what they did not do. Why would they come out to say they’ve been supporting my husband from the start when they did not do anything? I called Emeka Rollers, but he didn’t answer; I texted, he read the message and did not reply,” she said.
