January 13, (THEWILL) – Moses Simon of the Super Eagles has sent a message of support to Al Ahly’s Egypt defender Akram Tawfik, who suffered a critical injury during the first half of Tuesday’s TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match between the two African football powerhouses.
In the 14th minute, Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz was forced to make a substitution, bringing in Monem to replace Tawfik.
The Pharaohs’ number 25 lay on the turf, needing medical attention from an injury sustained while battling Simon for the ball. Tawfik’s cruciate ligament ruptured, and he has been ruled out for the remainder of the football season.
In a video statement posted on the Super Eagles Instagram page, Simon, whose dribbling caused Tawfik to fall and injure himself, said: “Hello, my name is Moses Simon, Nigerian Super Eagles player. I just want to wish the Egyptian player Akram Tawfik all the best.
“I wish you quick recovery, please be strong.”
Egypt would be unable to nominate a new member to their Africa Cup of Nations squad after Tawfik sustained an injury in their opening Group D game, according to the regulations.
