SAN FRANCISCO, June 06, (THEWILL) – More details have emerged as to what killed iconic singer, Prince. Report from the medical examiner’s testing points opioid drug overdose as the cause of death.

Here’s how TMZ reports it:

The ME’s Office has been conducting toxicology testing on the singer, and the AP quotes a source as saying it was an “opioid overdose.”

TMZ broke the story … 6 days before his death, Prince had nearly died from a Percocet overdose that forced an emergency landing in Moline, IL … where he had to get a “save” shot.

Percocet is an opioid — a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol) — but the AP report doesn’t specify what opioid was in Prince’s system.

As we’ve reported, Dr. Michael Schulenberg was at Paisley Park the morning Prince died there — and Dr. Howard Kornfeld’s son was also there with opioids used to treat addiction. Schulenberg’s attorney has said he did not give Prince any meds that morning.

Our sources say the full ME’s report will be released on Friday.
