April 14, (THEWILL) – Terem Moffi has claimed the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) goal of the week award.
Moffi earned the honour after scoring two stunning goals for OGC Nice during their quarter-final clash against Basel on Thursday night. His brace helped Nice earn a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the competition at St. Jakob-Park.
Moffi’s first goal came in the 38th minute when he restored parity for Nice after Zeki Admouni had given Basel the lead. Just before half-time, the 21-year-old striker put the French side ahead with an outstanding overhead kick from Gaetan Larbode’s cross, which left Basel’s goalkeeper Marwin Hitz with no chance. Moffi’s second strike was a thing of beauty, but it was the overhead goal that eventually won him the award for the best goal of the week.
Moffi’s recent form for Nice has been outstanding since joining the club from Lorient in January. He has scored a total of four league goals for The Eaglets and three goals in three Conference League games, including his impressive brace against Basel.
Nice’s clash against Basel is still well-poised, and the second leg is set for next week, but the young striker will have another chance to add to his tally before then when Nice takes on Brest in the French top flight.
