September 28, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 with a 3-1 victory over Rennes on Friday. Bradley Barcola was the star of the show, netting twice to help PSG maintain their unbeaten record and move three points clear at the summit.
Barcola opened the scoring on the 30-minute mark with a well-placed curling shot. Lee Kang-in doubled PSG’s advantage in the 58th minute, heading home after Barcola’s powerful strike rebounded off the woodwork.
Barcola then completed his brace with a simple finish from Achraf Hakimi’s assist, taking his tally to six league goals this season and surpassing Marseille’s Mason Greenwood as Ligue 1’s top scorer.
Rennes managed to pull one back through a penalty converted by former PSG player Arnaud Kalimuendo, awarded for a handball by Lucas Beraldo. The visitors thought they had scored again late on through Alidu Seidu, but the goal was disallowed for handball.
Luis Enrique’s PSG side now sit three points clear at the top, though Monaco and Marseille have the opportunity to close the gap this weekend. Monaco face Montpellier on Saturday, while Marseille travel to Strasbourg on Sunday.
