March 04, (THEWILL) – On Friday night, Lyon defeated Lorient 4-1 at home in Ligue 1 to move up the table on a very poor night for the hosts.
The victory saw Lyon climb up to sixth place in Ligue 1 as they attempt to sustain a late push for a Champions League spot at the end of the 2021/2022 campaign.
Romain Favre put the visitors ahead after only five minutes, and Moussa Dembele doubled their lead on the 26th minute.
But, Lorient’s Nigerian forward Terem Moffi scored in the 57th minute to give Lorient hope, only for Lyon’s Cameroonian striker Karl Toko Ekambi to restore the two-goal advantage just two minutes later. Faivre grabbed his brace with 12 minutes of normal time remaining.
Another loss sees Lorient still in 16th position, two points clear of the relegation zone and fighting to avoid the drop out of the top flight of French football.
