February 14, (THEWILL) – Nigerian billionaire, Dozy Mmobuosi, has alleged unfair treatment in his bid to purchase Sheffield United, an English Championship club.
Mmobuosi, a 43-year-old technology and business entrepreneur, has been attempting to acquire the club for £90 million. However, he believes the British government has over-scrutinised him due to his African background.
Mmobuosi stated, “I feel that if I weren’t Nigerian or African, it would have been different. So, I think the world needs to change this attitude of naming people, shaming people, or doubting people because they come from a certain place.”
He further added that his intention is to run the club not just as a business for himself and fans, but also for the community. Sheffield United has been in the process of acquiring new ownership for two years. In 2020, a deal to buy the club for £100 million fell through with American businessman, Henry Mauriss.
Mmobuosi hopes to get approved by the EFL and finalise the deal, becoming one of the youngest billionaires in Nigeria to own an English football club.
