October 8, (THEWILL) – Eder Militao’s thunderous header gave Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over Getafe on Saturday, moving them ahead of Barcelona in the La Liga standings.
Last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna marked Los Blancos’ first league point drop this season, but they turned things around by winning at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
It was also Militao’s first goal of the season, enough the Brazilian produced after just three minutes into the game, slamming Luka Modric’s left-wing corner into the Getafe net from close range to break the deadlock.
Although there were no other goals in the tie, Carlo Ancelotti’s team moved into first place ahead of Barcelona, whom they will play next weekend in the season’s first El Clasico. Before then, however, Xavi Hernandez’s team can retake the top spot if they defeat Celta Vigo on Sunday.
Ahead of the El Clasico next Sunday, Madrid will play Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday in Warsaw. On Friday in La Liga, Getafe will travel to Rayo Vallecano.
