February 19, (THEWILL) – AC Milan suffered late heartbreak on Sunday night, losing 4-2 away to AC Monza to end their unbeaten run in dramatic fashion. Despite taking an early lead through Matteo Pessina’s penalty, Monza found themselves pegged back to 2-2 after a Christian Pulisic rocket in injury time.
However, the hosts showed resilience to retake the lead through substitute Warren Bondo moments later before sealing a memorable first-ever Serie A victory over Milan via on-loan Rossoneri striker, Lorenzo Colombo.
Milan had started brightly, with Luka Jovic forcing an early save inside five minutes. Yet, Monza grew into the game and were awarded a penalty on 34 minutes when Malick Thiaw fouled Dany Mota. Captain Pessina dispatched the spot kick with ease to give the hosts the lead they doubled soon before the break Mota.
Despite being reduced to 10 men after Jovic’s dismissal, Milan battled back through Olivier Giroud and Pulisic to level at 2-2. Their joy was short-lived however, as Bondo and Colombo struck late to clinch a remarkable 4-2 comeback success for Monza.
The result leaves Milan third, two points behind Juventus, while Monza rise to eighth after a second straight league win. Stefano Pioli will be demanding an immediate response from his side, with crucial games against Atalanta and Lazio up next.
