March 25, (THEWILL)- Fabian Marozsan, ranked 57th in the world, pulled off a stunning 6-1 6-1 victory over Danish star, Holger Rune, in the second round of the Miami Open ATP event on Sunday. The match lasted just 59 minutes as the 24-year-old Hungarian dominated from start to finish.
Marozsan’s convincing performance saw him strike 23 winners and save all three break points he faced against the world number seven. This was the third time the Hungarian has defeated a top-10 opponent at a Masters event, having previously beaten Carlos Alcaraz in Rome and Casper Ruud in Shanghai last year.
The match was a masterclass in aggressive tennis from Marozsan, who consistently applied pressure on his higher-ranked opponent. Rune, despite his immense talent, struggled to find a way to counter Marozsan’s high-intensity approach.
“I enjoy playing at the highest level, I had a great day and enjoyed every moment on the centre court against a very talented player,” said Marozsan after the match. “I tried to put more pressure on him and I played very high-intensity tennis and maybe he didn’t find the way to come back or do something different.”
Marozsan will now face Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in the third round after Popyrin defeated Czech Jiri Lehecka 6-4 6-4 earlier in the day.
