Mbappe Wins 5th Straight French Player Of Year Award Ahead Of PSG Exit

May 14, (THEWILL)- At a glittering awards ceremony in Paris on Monday, Kylian Mbappe was named France’s player of the year. This accolade comes as the prolific striker prepares to bid farewell to Paris Saint-Germain after a remarkable seven-season stint with the club.

The 25-year-old claimed the prestigious Ligue 1 best player prize at the UNFP (French Players’ Union) Trophies gala for the fifth consecutive time. His remarkable goal-scoring exploits saw him net an astonishing 44 goals across all competitions for PSG this season.

Last week, the French captain confirmed his imminent departure from PSG when his contract expires at the end of the campaign. Real Madrid is widely expected to be his next destination. “It is a page that is turning, a chapter of my life that is going to close,” Mbappe said, reflecting on his time in Ligue 1.

Despite his pending exit, Mbappe remains focused on ending his PSG tenure on a high note. He scored in Sunday’s surprising 3-1 home defeat against Toulouse, taking his Ligue 1 tally to 27 goals – eight more than the next highest scorer, Lille’s Jonathan David.

With two Ligue 1 fixtures and the French Cup final against Lyon on May 25 remaining, Mbappe has a few more opportunities to add to his remarkable PSG goal haul before embarking on a new chapter.
