November 07, (THEWILL) – Robert Firmino of Liverpool has been left out of the final 26-man World Cup squad for Brazil while Gabriel Martinelli of Arsenal made the cut to represent the South American football powerhouse in Qatar.
THEWILL recalls that Firmino was named in Brazil’s squad for September’s international friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia even if he was on the bench and has not featured for his county since last year’s Copa America.
Gabriel Jesus and Martinelli, who has scored five goals to help Mikel Arteta’s squad stay on top of the English Premier League, are both in Tite’s lineup, but Gabriel Magalhaes, another member of the Arsenal team, is left out.
Anthony from Manchester United and Richarlison from Tottenham, who has made 24 starts for his nation and scored 17 goals, is also included in the team led by Neymar.
Brazil, the most successful team in World Cup history, enters the tournament as the favourite and top-ranked team in FIFA. Despite not dropping a match throughout CONMEBOL qualifying, they have only advanced past the quarterfinals once since winning against Japan in 2002.
