August 04, (THEWILL) – Due to an injury, Anthony Martial is predicted to miss Sunday’s Premier League match between Manchester United and Brighton.
The 26-year-old returned from an underwhelming loan stint at Sevilla but has appeared revitalised throughout the preseason while playing as a centre-forward under the guidance of new manager Erik ten Hag. Unfortunately, he will be unable to start the new season because of a hamstring injury.
When United travel to Brentford the following Saturday, they will be hoping that Martial’s issue will be minimal and he will be eligible for selection. If he still is not available, he may not be able to feature nine days later, when they will host Liverpool, as Ten Hag will be expected to field his strongest side at home to one of the title favourites.
It gives the Dutch manager a problem with regard to selection. The only other recognised striker in the team is Cristiano Ronaldo, who wants to leave the team during this transfer window. However, Ten Hag has already admitted he is not yet fully fit and has publicly criticised the forward for leaving last Sunday’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano at halftime.
Options open for Ten Hag are few. While Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo have both previously played up front, Marcus Rashford is capable of playing through the centre.
