August 01, (THEWILL) – Sadio Mane, the 31-year-old Senegal forward, has bid farewell to European football and completed a move to the Saudi Pro League, signing with Al-Nassr from Bayern Munich for a reported £34 million.
Mane’s time in Germany was cut short after just one season, following his transfer from Liverpool last summer. His tenure at Bayern was marked by challenges, as he struggled for form and encountered an injury that prevented him from participating in the 2022 World Cup. Additionally, a training ground altercation with teammate Leroy Sane resulted in fines and suspension.
Now, Mane is embarking on a new chapter in Saudi Arabia, where he joins forces with Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozovic at Al-Nassr, despite previous links to Al-Ahli and a potential reunion with former Liverpool teammate Roberto Firmino.
Having initially moved to England with Southampton, Mane’s prolific journey unfolded when he joined Liverpool in 2016. During his time at Anfield, he impressively netted 120 goals in 269 appearances, contributing to the club’s triumphs in the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Club World Cup.
Bayern Munich’s Chief Executive, Jan-Christian Dreesen, thanked Mane for his service during the past season. He acknowledged the challenges Mane faced, particularly the injury setback that marred his chances of participating in the World Cup with Senegal.
The decision for Mane to pursue a new start at a different club was a joint one, driven by his extended absence and the desire for a fresh beginning in his career. Bayern wished Mane the best and success as he embraces the forthcoming challenges at Al-Nassr.
