February 06, (THEWILL) – The English Premier League has accused Manchester City of violating its financial rules after a four-year investigation.

The reigning EPL champions have been referred to an independent commission due to allegations of breaching several financial rules between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. The club is accused of not providing accurate financial information, including revenue, related parties and operating costs, as well as not fully disclosing managerial remuneration during Roberto Mancini’s reign from 2009/2010 to 2012/2013.

The EPL has also alleged that City breached the profit and sustainability rules during the 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. Furthermore, the club is accused of not complying with UEFA’s regulations for club licensing and financial fair play between 2013-14 and 2017-18.

THEWILL recalls that the Etihad club was banned from European competitions for two years by UEFA for alleged breaches of financial fair play regulations in 2020, but the ban was later overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The EPL confirmed that the proceedings will be confidential and heard in private. The final decision will be published on their website.

City won the title last season, making it their sixth title since 2008, and they currently sit in second place this season behind Arsenal.
