November 26, (THEWILL) – Goodison Park was filled with anger on Sunday, as Everton returned to English Premier League action for the first time since being deducted 10 points for breaching financial rules. Deafening boos and chants against the league greeted the players before kickoff, while thousands held up protest cards with the league’s logo labelled “corrupt.”

The hostility did little to inspire Everton, who quickly conceded in just the 2nd minute to a jaw-dropping overhead kick from 19-year-old Alejandro Garnacho. His acrobatic volley stunned the home fans and set the tone for a comprehensive away win for Manchester United.

Everton eventually found their footing and dominated the latter stages of the first half, forcing United goalkeeper Andre Onana into several good saves. However, the Red Devils withstood the pressure and doubled their advantage shortly after half-time courtesy of a Marcus Rashford penalty.

Anthony Martial added gloss to the scoreline in the 75th minute after being set up by Bruno Fernandes, sealing a 3-0 victory – United’s largest league win this campaign. Manager Erik ten Hag watched on from the stands, facing a touchline ban, as his side produced a complete performance.

For wounded Everton, the match brought only more misery. Their fans continued protesting the EPL throughout whilst on the pitch chances went begging. Next up is a tough away trip to Nottingham Forest as they battle for survival in England’s top flight.
