March 13,(THEWILL) – Manchester United have decided not to appeal the red card given to midfielder Casemiro during their match against Southampton on Sunday.
As THEWILL reported, the Brazilian was sent off in the first half for a high challenge on Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz. It was Casemiro’s second straight red in his last three English Premier League games for the club, and he is now facing a four-game domestic ban.
Despite the potential impact on the team’s upcoming fixtures, United confirmed their decision not to appeal Anthony Taylor’s decision to send Casemiro off. In a statement on their official website, the club said: “Manchester United have decided not to appeal against Casemiro’s red card in the 0-0 draw with Southampton.”
Casemiro will, therefore, miss the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final with Fulham this Sunday and next month’s EPL fixtures against Newcastle United, Brentford, and Everton. However, he will be available for Thursday’s Europa League round-of-16 second leg away to Real Betis.
This comes as a blow to Man Utd’s hopes of maintaining their momentum in the EPL, as they look to secure a top-four finish and challenge for silverware in the Europa League.
