September 26, (THEWILL) – Manchester United comfortably dispatched Crystal Palace 3-0 on Tuesday night, to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Goals from Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho in the first half gave United a commanding lead before Anthony Martial netted after the break to seal an emphatic victory.
United controlled the match from the outset, barely giving Palace a chance to get into the game. The first goal came in the 21st minute when Garnacho finished off a nice move down the right flank. Casemiro then headed home a second from a corner to double United’s advantage six minutes later.
Palace offered little in response as United dominated the remainder of the first period. The visitors briefly threatened after the interval but Martial quickly killed off any hopes of a comeback with United’s third goal.
The match proved a straightforward affair for United, who never looked in danger against limited opposition. Manager Erik ten Hag will be pleased with the performance ahead of a crucial English Premier League clash between the sides again on Saturday.
However, sterner examinations await United as they look to build momentum this season. Saturday’s league meeting with Palace will provide a truer test of United’s ability to wade the testy waters of this campaign under Ten Hag.
