September 23, (THEWILL) – Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is expected to return from injury soon, according to manager Pep Guardiola.
The 33-year-old Belgian missed Sunday’s English Premier League match against Arsenal due to a suspected groin problem sustained during their UEFA Champions League clash with Inter Milan last Wednesday.
Guardiola stated after City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal that De Bruyne’s absence should not be prolonged. “I do not think it will be long,” the manager said, adding that while he could not provide an exact timeframe, De Bruyne might be available for the upcoming Newcastle United fixture.
City face Championship side Watford in the League Cup third round on Tuesday, before travelling to Newcastle for their League encounter at the weekend. De Bruyne’s potential return for the Newcastle match would be reminiscent of his comeback at St James’ Park in January, where he scored in a 3-2 victory after a four-month layoff due to a hamstring injury.
The midfielder’s swift recovery would be welcome news for the EPL leaders, who currently top the table with 13 points from five games. De Bruyne’s absence was felt in the recent draw against Arsenal, highlighting his importance to the team’s performance.
Manchester City will be eager to have their key playmaker back in action as they continue their campaign across multiple competitions. De Bruyne’s return could provide a significant boost to the squad as they aim to maintain their strong start to the season.
