The Italian manager was speaking at a post-match conference ahead of the Champions League clash against AEK Athens on Tuesday.

Maresca said: “Of the five problems that we had, Nico [O’Reilly] started, Mateo [Kovacic] started, Matheus [Nunes] started, then Erling [Haaland] also played from the start.

“Antoine was the only one [who got injured], so sometimes things happen and you need to just find solutions for the next time.

“It could be eight weeks. Now the most important thing is recovery. When he is back in December it will be like a new player. Collateral. It’s not muscle.

“You try to control everything, but sometimes it is so complicated because things happen that we cannot control – we try our best and think about how we can keep players fit.

“We need to pay attention [to workloads] and this is why we made changes against Ipswich, that’s why we also need to make some changes tomorrow.”

Maresca also confirmed that Erling Haaland is expected to be available against AEK Athens following his injury scare against Ipswich Town.

He said: “He can be ‌available, we will see, we have a session now. We have some doubts after Saturday’s game. He was quite good yesterday, better. So we will see today.”

The Italian manager believes the match against AEK Athens is important to the team after the PSG defeat.

Maresca added: “I don’t think one game is going to change our plan or our idea in terms of what we want to do.

“The target is always to try and win games. For sure, after the defeat against PSG, we need to win games and that is why I said that tomorrow is an important game.

“The same response that we had in the last game against Ipswich. The game is gone, it’s a new game, new plan, a new team we need to face, so we need a different solution.

“I think the response after the PSG game was quite good.

“It is a Champions League game, different competition but the ambition has to be the same, try to win games and again, I had one year experience there [in Greece]. As I said a few conferences ago, it [managing in Greece] is nice because it is very warm, every game, at home, away, but it was a good experience.”

Man City currently occupy the 17th position after one win and one defeat in their first two matches in the Champions League this season.

Semenyo is expected to miss at least 13 matches for Man City across three different competitions.

He has scored two goals and recorded three assists in all competitions for Man City this season.
