Man City Narrow Gap With EPL Top Teams After Gritty Win At Everton

December 28, (THEWILL) – Manchester City closed the gap on English Premier League leaders Liverpool to just five points following a hard-fought 3-1 victory away at Everton. Despite falling behind early on at Goodison Park, Pep Guardiola’s men produced an impressive second-half display to take all three points in their quest to retain the title.

The home side drew first blood through Jack Harrison, who finished off a well-worked move to give Everton a surprise lead. However, City quickly restored parity after the break thanks to a thunderous strike from Phil Foden. Julian Alvarez, then converted a controversial penalty just after the hour mark to complete the turnaround.

Although Everton rallied late on and threatened an equaliser, Bernardo Silva wrapped up a smash-and-grab win for the visitors, with a composed finish on the counterattack after a costly Jordan Pickford error. The result leaves City five points behind Liverpool, having played a game less.

With the EPL title race hotting up, their performance will give Pep Guardiola’s charges plenty of confidence that they have the quality and mentality to overhaul the Reds in the second half of the campaign.

They now turn their attention to an away EPL tie against Sheffield United on Saturday, before hosting Huddersfield in January in the FA Cup.
