May 16, (THEWILL)- Manchester City have been dealt a major blow with the news that first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, will miss the final game of the 2023/2024 season due to an eye socket fracture. The 30-year-old Brazilian sustained the injury in a collision with Tottenham Hotspur defender, Cristian Romero, during City’s 2-0 English Premier League victory on Tuesday night.
Despite requiring lengthy treatment on the pitch, Ederson attempted to continue before being substituted by manager Pep Guardiola in the second half. Scans have since revealed a small fracture to Ederson’s right eye socket, ruling him out of City’s final two games as they chase a fourth consecutive EPL title and FA Cup triumph.
City confirmed the extent of Ederson’s injury in a statement on Thursday: “He has undergone scans of the affected area that have revealed a small fracture to the right eye socket. The injury will prevent Ederson from playing any further part in the remaining games of the 2023/24 season.”

The news comes as a significant setback for the league leaders, who face West Ham United on Sunday knowing victory will secure another EPL crown. They then take on Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 25, with deputy goalkeeper Stefan Ortega now likely to deputise in Ederson’s absence.
