March 01, (THEWILL) – Manchester City have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after beating Bristol City 3-0 in an entertaining game at Ashton Gate.

Despite the hosts’ unbeaten run coming to an end, Bristol City made a valiant effort with Kalvin Phillips’ long-range strike rattling the crossbar in the opening minute. However, two goals from Phil Foden and an excellent strike from Kevin De Bruyne, proved too much for Bristol City to handle.

The opening goal came just seven minutes in as Foden powered home an unmarked shot at the back post to finish off a low cross from Riyad Mahrez. Bristol City did not back down and Alex Scott, caused problems for the visitors, but Man City’s quality shone through as former Chelsea man, Tomas Kalas, made crucial blocks and clearances.

The hosts had a half-chance of their own but were powerless to stop the second goal from Foden with 15 minutes to go, which was set up by a brilliant pass from De Bruyne. The Belgian was also able to find the back of the net himself with a powerful strike from range just ten minutes before the final whistle, ensuring that City closed out what was a thoroughly entertaining cup tie.

Pep Guardiola’s charges will return to English Premier League action on Saturday, against Newcastle while Bristol City will face Cardiff in the Championship on the same day.
