SAN FRANCISCO, March 08, (THEWILL) – Four out of the 139 injured persons from the multiple explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Saturday, have been confirmed dead thus increasing the death toll from the dastardly acts to 62.
This came as another explosion at the Beneisheikh market, Sunday morning, killed five persons and injured 15 others.
Confirming the Sunday blast, a local youth vigilante member, who craved anonymity, told THEWILL that: “The insurgents planted a bomb at the Beneisheikh market around 10 am on Sunday. This led to the death of five persons and injuries to about 15 others.
“Today (Sunday) being the market day of Benisheikh here, villagers do come to buy and sell grains and others goods but they had bad news to tell as a bomb suspected to be planted by a suspected Boko Haram insurgent exploded doing the damage.”
Modu Gana, another resident of Beneisheikh, said : “We saw the dead bodies being conveyed to Beneisheikh hospital and those wounded were assisted by the civilian JTF to the hospital. The market dispersed as people and traders took to their heels for safety after the explosion occurred.”
The State Commissioner for Police, Clement Adoda, had earlier said 58 persons died from the Saturday blasts while the 139 persons who were injured were being treated in different hospitals in Maiduguri.
But a nurse at one of the hospitals said on Sunday: “Due to the gravity of injuries of some victims brought to the hospital yesterday (Saturday) which have made them lose so much blood, three of the injured were lost overnight, another one was lost this morning before the medical routine checks by the medical doctor on duty.”
The nurse, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added: “We are presently observing the case of one victim who is in critical situation and will need a miracle to survive as few hours from now are critical.
“Apart from these isolated cases, majority of the victims have been treated and discharged and have since gone home.”
