November 23, (THEWILL) – Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, has responded to an apology from Ghanaian Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, who previously christened their Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, an “economic Maguire” last year.
In a speech to parliament on Tuesday, Adongo, walked back his criticism of the England international, acknowledging that Maguire has “turned the corner and is a transformational footballer” this season. The 30-year-old, has worked his way back into Erik ten Hag’s starting XI at Old Trafford and, in October, scored the winner against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.
Adongo told parliament: “I now apologise to Harry Maguire. Today, Maguire is scoring goals for Manchester United. Mr Speaker, Harry Maguire is now a key player for Manchester United.”
Maguire responded on social media, accepting the apology and inviting Adongo to “see you at Old Trafford soon.”
The centre-back’s improved form, has also seen him maintain his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. He started their recent 1-1 draw with North Macedonia, although he was perhaps fortunate to avoid conceding a penalty.
