BEVERLY HILLS, March 10, (THEWILL) – No fewer than 1,250 residents of Mafa Local Government Area in Borno State have been moved out of the area to a camp in Maiduguri, the state capital, as a result of the ongoing military operations against Boko Haram in the area.
The trapped residents were moved Tuesday by officials of the local government with the assistance of the military.
Disclosing this was the chairman of Mafa local government area, Alhaji Maina Lawan, who said the relocation was to give free access to the military to rout Boko Haram insurgents in the area.
According to Lawan “With the security cover by the Nigerian troops, we visited Mafa town to assess the extent of damages caused by the Boko Haram insurgents.
“During our visit, we discovered that the government structures, residential houses and other buildings were thought to have been completely razed down; but not as much as we thought earlier when we were taking refuge in Maiduguri metropolis.”
“We also evacuated over 1, 000 people who were trapped within the Mafa town while fleeing from their villages, and we now designated a camp for them in Maiduguri.”
The relocated residents would however be returned after the completion of the military operation in the area.
Recently, the troops of the Nigerian Army have been recording successes in their operations against the insurgents with some towns earlier captured by the insurgents reclaimed by the troops.
