September 15, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison has been awarded the English Premier League Player of the Month award for August, capping off an impressive start to life at his new club.
The midfielder made the summer switch from Leicester City and has quickly adapted to his new surroundings under manager Ange Postecoglou. Maddison grabbed two assists in Spurs’ opening 2-2 draw at Brentford, before scoring the opener in their 2-0 win away to Bournemouth a fortnight later.
The 25-year-old also delivered an outstanding performance in Tottenham’s 2-0 home victory against Manchester United in between those fixtures. His early season form has helped Postecoglou’s side earn seven points from their first three league matches.
Maddison expressed his delight at joining a club he felt was the perfect fit for his playing style. “I could just see myself in that Tottenham kit, in that stadium. It just fitted well for me,” he said recently.
The England international saw off competition from Nottingham Forest’s Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and Manchester City’s Rodri to claim the award. Maddison and Spurs will aim to continue their strong start when they host Sheffield United on Saturday.
