August 13, (THEWILL) — Romelu Lukaku has completed an emotional move to Turkish giants, Fenerbahce, after leaving Napoli, returning to a country that holds special significance in the Belgium striker’s childhood.
The 33-year-old forward joins Fenerbahce after a difficult final season in Italy, during which injuries restricted him to just seven appearances in all competitions for Napoli. Despite those struggles, Lukaku remains one of Europe’s most experienced strikers and arrives in Istanbul with his reputation as Belgium’s all-time leading scorer intact.
For Lukaku, however, the transfer represents more than another chapter in a long and decorated career. Turkey is where he spent part of his childhood after his father, Roger Lukaku, played professionally for Genclerbirligi during the 1996-97 season.
An Emotional Return
Lukaku expressed his excitement in a message to Fenerbahce supporters, describing the move as both an honour and an emotional homecoming after many years away.

Now, Fenerbahce are hoping the experienced striker can provide the goals needed to end their long wait for domestic success.
The Istanbul club have finished runners-up to fierce rivals Galatasaray in each of the past four Turkish league seasons and have not won the Super Lig title since 2014.

Lukaku is also the second former Manchester United forward to join Fenerbahce this summer, following Mason Greenwood’s move from Marseille.
