October 16, (THEWILL) – Atalanta’s early winning goal against the tenacious Sassuolo in Bergamo provided even further evidence that Ademola Lookman was operating on a frequency that Atalanta wanted when they signed him.
Giorgios Kyriakopoulos’ stunning volley gave the visitors the lead in the 41st minute, but Atalanta’s two quick goals from Mario Pasalic and Lookman changed the tide in their favour.
After making a strong run towards the Sassuolo box, the Nigerian international received a quality ball from Brandon Soppy to advance toward the evening’s potential comeback goal. He deftly sidestepped a Sassuolo defender before unleashing an exquisite left-footed shot to put Atalanta in front.
Lookman has already contributed four goals and one assist in ten games for Atalanta, or at least one goal per two games to see the club overtake Napoli to go top of the league, albeit temporarily before Luciano Spalletti’s side play on Sunday.
