January 21, (THEWILL) – Hugo Lloris, the captain of Tottenham Hotspur, has signed a new two-year contract with the club. Since joining Spurs in 2012, Lloris has made just under 400 appearances for the north London club.
His contract was set to expire this summer, and under the Bosman verdict, the goalie would have been entitled to negotiate terms with clubs outside of the United Kingdom.
Spurs head coach Antonio Conte indicated last week that he was “very confident” of a great result. The club and Lloris’ representatives have been in contact on and off over the last few months, with the pace picking up in the last week.
He has the most Premier League appearances for Spurs and will receive a testimonial in the summer as a reward for his ten years of service. Lloris had explored a transfer abroad and considered his future in the summer, with Roma a possible destination.
But, he has decided his future with Spurs, with the club now in fifth place in the Premier League table, with a match against Chelsea scheduled for Sunday.
