September 27, (THEWILL) – In July 2020, Nollywood actress Elizabeth Aishat Anjorin married her friend of many years, Lateef Lawal, in an elaborate Nikkai ceremony attended by some of her friends in the movie industry. However, some months after settling down to married life, controversies arose about her husband’s past life. One of his ex-wives, Fola Tinubu, accused Lateef of abandonment. She also claimed that the actress snatched her husband and turned him against her. As a result, she ran into debts and has been unable to feed their three children.

Fola stressed that Lateef cut off all access to him and refused to send money to her for their children’s upkeep. She called on Nigerians to come to her aid in her bid to keep her head above water and adequately cater for the children her husband abandoned.

After Fola’s public outburst, Lizzy Anjorin rose in defence of her husband. She said that Fola and Lateef Lawal were never married. Describing the latter as a responsible man, who would not run away from his responsibilities, Liz also said he gave Fola more than N1 million in five months.

Just when people thought the matter had been resolved and the warring parties appeased, the man at the centre of the controversy opened his own can of worms. In a video that lasted almost one hour, the businessman absolved himself of all the accusations leveled against him. He also sent all those defaming his name to the gallows. According to him, his first wife was one Ramota, also known as Iya Ayomide. They had two children before they both went their separate ways. He insists that he has been performing his fatherly role to the two children. He then met Monsurat, his second wife, in 2006 and they both had their Nikkai ceremony. Not long after welcoming their child, he caught her cheating on him. He gave instances of how he found her in compromising positions with their co-tenant, her spiritual guide, and one other person whose name he didn’t mention. He said he ended the union, but the woman made away with all his valuables as he was locked out of his apartment.

After leaving Monsurat, he met Fola who already had two children from a previous marriage. But Fola never told him that she had been married before. When he found out and confronted her, she begged for forgiveness and they both moved on. Sometime afterwards, Fola got pregnant and he took responsibility for the child, although he was doubtful about its paternity. He said he requested a DNA test multiple times, but Fola always incited trouble when the subject came up.

Finally, he challenged his ex-wife to bring the three children she said he fathered so a DNA test could be conducted. He affirmed that he would continue taking care of the children if the test turned out to be positive. According to him, Fola was an adulteress like Monsurat, his second wife. According to him, she would leave the house and not return till the following day, leaving the children locked up in the house. By then, he had moved out of the house for good and rented another apartment in Ikorodu, where he started all over again while still playing his role as their father.

Lawal stated that Fola was a gold digger who saw him as her automated teller machine. He also accused her of being lazy and called her a serial liar who did not want him to progress in life. He pleaded with naysayers to visit the former house he resided in with her in Fagba, a neighborhood in Lagos State, to confirm his claims. He also provided voice notes from his landlord and neighbours that corroborated all he said.

Lawal ensured he exonerated himself from the tale of selling Fola’s property as she claimed. According to him, Fola had no property when they met and he did not forcefully collect anything from her. He added that he is in danger and Fola should be held responsible if anything untoward happens to him or his family.
