December 24, (THEWILL) – Liverpool was dealt a major injury blow in their 1-1 English Premier League draw with Arsenal on Saturday, as left-back Kostas Tsimikas sustained a suspected broken collarbone. The Greek defender fell awkwardly in the 35th minute after a strong challenge by Bukayo Saka and collided with manager Juergen Klopp on the touchline.

Tsimikas was replaced by Joe Gomez and left the pitch in clear pain, clutching his arm. Liverpool are already missing first-choice left-back Andy Robertson with a shoulder issue.

“It was massively overshadowed by Kostas Tsimikas’s collarbone issue, definitely broken, so he is out for a long time,” Klopp said of the match result. “The other issues we will have to see. It is hard for us to swallow with the Robbo situation. I would happily give my collarbone for him to be fit again.”

Liverpool initially struggled and trailed to Gabriel Magalhães’ header. However, Mohammed Salah equalised with a stunning strike before half-time. Both sides spurned chances to claim all three points in a top-level contest. The draw leaves Arsenal top on 40 points, with Liverpool second on 39 alongside Aston Villa.

Klopp remained upbeat, saying: “Neither side gave up. Top intensity, spectacular in moments. Tough game, good game. We take confidence from the result against a top, top side.” However, Liverpool now faces an anxious wait over the extent of Tsimikas’ injury. With Robertson already side-lined, the left back looks like a real problem position going into the busy Christmas period.
