December 31, (THEWILL) – Liverpool has confirmed the early return of attacker Fabio Carvalho from his season-long loan, at German club, RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old joined the Bundesliga side last summer but has struggled for playing time, prompting the Reds to cut his spell short after just half a season.
Carvalho arrived at Liverpool in 2022 from Fulham and has made 21 appearances so far, scoring 3 goals. However, after a quiet debut campaign, he pushed for a loan move to gain more experience. Leipzig seemed an ideal fit, but since October, Carvalho has played just 39 minutes of league football.
In total, the Portugal youth international was restricted to just 15 appearances across all competitions for Die Roten Bullen, totalling 360 minutes of game time. Liverpool feels he would benefit more from returning to Merseyside.
A club statement read: “Fabio Carvalho has returned to Liverpool from his loan spell with RB Leipzig. The attacker comes back to the Reds having spent the first half of 2023/24 in the Bundesliga.”
Carvalho is now set to rejoin first-team training at Liverpool. The club will then assess whether another loan move later this January would be more beneficial in continuing his development. Either way, his spell in Germany can be considered disappointing for all parties.
