Liverpool Left-Back Crisis Continues As Beck Hit With Suspension

January 06, (THEWILL) – Liverpool has been dealt a blow ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash with Arsenal on Sunday, with left-back Owen Beck, suspended despite being recalled from loan to ease the club’s injury crisis.

The 21-year-old was brought back from Scottish side Dundee last week, by manager Jurgen Klopp, after first-choice Andy Robertson and back-up Kostas Tsimikas, were both struck down by injuries. Beck had impressed during his spell north of the border and many expected him to slot straight into the starting XI this weekend.

However, it has now been revealed that Beck picked up two yellow cards whilst playing in the Scottish League Cup for Dundee, earning himself a one-match ban that he did not serve before departing. The FA have confirmed this suspension will now be enforced on Beck’s next domestic appearance, ruling him out of Sunday’s Emirates Stadium trip.

With Robertson and Tsimikas still several weeks away from returning, Klopp may have no choice but to continue using makeshift left-back Joe Gomez against the Gunners. The German boss will be hoping Beck’s absence is only short-term as he looks to guide Liverpool towards more silverware this season.
