April 23, (THEWILL) – Arne Slot, the Feyenoord head coach, has emerged as a strong candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The 45-year-old ticked all the key criteria for the position at Anfield, although the process is not a foregone conclusion, with the Eredivisie club determined to keep him.
Liverpool’s interest in Slot stems from his aggressive, full-throttle style of play. He has drilled Feyenoord to be adept at turning defensive actions into scoring opportunities, and they top the Eredivisie in tackles won in the opposition’s final third. Feyenoord also boasts the best defence in the league and the second-best offensive metrics.
Slot has proved capable of improving individual players and the collective while operating on a smaller budget than his competitors. His preferred formations, 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-3, fit Liverpool’s squad. He has previously been approached by Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Leeds, but he signed a new contract last May, keeping him at Feyenoord until 2026.
However, Slot has referenced a desire to take the next step in his career. If a deal is closed, compensation is anticipated to be around £9 million. Other managers, such as Ruben Amorim and Paulo Fonseca, are also being considered by Liverpool and West Ham, respectively.
