September 03, (THEWILL) – In a thrilling 0-0 Merseyside tie with Everton at Goodison Park, Jordan Pickford frustrated Liverpool’s goal attempts in a remarkable display that preserved a clean sheet for the hosts in their fourth draw so far.
The England goalkeeper made many outstanding saves which his counterpart in the opposing goal Alisson Becker had match to preserve the stalemate in a Merseyside derby that might have seen a barrage of goals.
First-half shots from both teams rattled the goal frame, from Tom Davies for Everton and from Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz for Liverpool. It was not done yet as Mohamed Salah’s late attempt also struck the post but did not find the net.
Everton believed they had taken the lead midway through the second half when Conor Coady, a former Liverpool academy player, headed in Neal Maupay’s cross, only to be disappointed when a VAR review revealed he was just inches offside.
Everton will go to Arsenal for their next fixture in search of their first victory of the season after this fourth draw. Liverpool, meanwhile, will focus on their midweek Champions League match against Napoli before playing Wolves at the weekend in the EPL.
