Liverpool Claim Point Away At Man City With Alexander-Arnold Equaliser

November 25, (THEWILL) – Liverpool earned a well-deserved point on Saturday, after an enthralling 1-1 draw away at defending champions Manchester City in the English Premier League.

In a high-stakes clash between the top two teams in the English top flight, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late goal was a welcome relief for the away fans and it was just enough to get the draw for Liverpool.

Some early defensive lapses allowed City to take a first half lead through the league’s top scorer Erling Haaland. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker was at fault for the opener, gifting possession to Phil Foden before Nathan Ake set up Haaland to slot home his 15th league goal of the campaign and become the fastest EPL players to reach 50 goals in just his 48th appearance.

The second half saw Liverpool start brightly and make positive substitutions, but they struggled to create clear cut chances. Alexander-Arnold finally broke through in the 80th minute with a well-taken finish from the edge of the box to level the scores. Both teams pushed hard for a winner during eight minutes of added time, but a point apiece was a fair result between the league’s top two.

The draw means the rivals remain separated by just one point at the summit of the EPL table with 26 games left to play this season. Liverpool also became the first team to avoid defeat away at Manchester City in 2023, ending an impressive run of 23 straight home wins for the hosts across all competitions.
