LG Polls: We’ll Prove Cynics Wrong, Says Gaidam

SAN FRANCISCO, December 23, 2013, (THEWILL) –  Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State declared at the weekend that the state would prove cynics wrong when it holds the Local Government elections next Saturday despite the security challenge.

He made the declaration while addressing a mammoth crowd of party supporters at the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu,the state capital.

He described the suggestion of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the general election may not hold in the state in 2015 as misjudgment, saying the December 28 Local Government Polls in the state would prove INEC wrong.

Gaidam therefore implored the people of the state and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to be dettered by the antics of the opposition.

The governor said his administration was commitment to ensuring peace and stability against the backdrop of the statement credited to INEC’s chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, that election may not hold in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa States.

Gaidam restated the essence of the Local Government election to the well-being of the people , saying the emergence of the APC as a great opposition to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the beginning of a new dawn in Nigeria.

He called on all supporters of the party in the state to come out enmasse and support the party during next weekend’s Local Government election.

In his remarks at the occasion, a former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Almajiri Geidam, maintained that the state chapter of APC will not join issues with PDP or its representative in the state.

He described the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Yerima Ngama, a PDP member from the state, as a political novice, who , according to him, was only trying to express his ignorance.

The former federal lawmaker said the minister is not on ground in the state and cannot decide what is right for the people as he implored the people of the state to ignore the Minister’s antics,saying they should continue to pray for the restoration of lasting peace in the state.
