January 04, (THEWILL) – Robert Lewandowski will be forced to sit out the next three La Liga games after the Spanish football federation (RFEF) upheld the suspension of the Barcelona striker.
The veteran forward was originally banned for one game after being sent off in the 2-1 win over Osasuna in November but received an additional two-game suspension for a gesture made towards referee Gil Manzano.
Barça initially appealed the ban to the RFEF but their request was denied. The club then took the matter to Spain’s administrative court for sport (TAD), and the suspension was temporarily lifted, allowing Lewandowski to play in the city derby against Espanyol over the weekend.
However, Mundo Deportivo has now reported that the ban has been upheld, ruling Lewandowski out of the games against Atletico Madrid, Getafe, and Girona. Barça still has the opportunity to appeal the suspension but must do so by the end of Thursday.
Lewandowski has scored 13 goals in 15 La Liga appearances since joining the club in the summer but has not scored in the competition since October.
