July 20, (THEWILL) – Robert Lewandowski’s long-awaited transfer from German champions Bayern Munich to Barcelona has been finalised.
The 33-year-old, regarded as one of the best attackers in football, pressed for a move away from Bayern all summer after getting impatient with the slow progress of contract talks and publicly stated that he preferred Barcelona, with other interested clubs such as Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, fully aware that they would only be considered if negotiations with Barcelona fell through.
That appeared to be an option at times, but in the end, an agreement between Bayern and Barca was reached at a price of €45 million plus €5 million add-ons. Eventually, the La Liga team struggled to raise the money necessary to persuade Bayern to sell.
On Saturday, Lewandowski bid his Bayern teammates farewell and signed a four-year deal with Camp Nou. The Pole will join Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, and Franck Kessie as the fourth player to sign with Barcelona this summer.
In addition, Xavi’s team has re-signed winger Ousmane Dembele to a new deal and is still searching for other reinforcements especially in the defence before the transfer market ends, according to club President Joan Laporta.
