Lekki Shooting: UN Condemns Military Attack On Protesters

SAN FRANCISCO, October 21, (THEWILL) – The United Nations has condemned the attack on unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate by the military on Tuesday night.

In a statement on Wednesday by the , António Guterres said the UN “was closely following recent developments across Nigeria.”

While calling for investigations into the killings to hold the perpetrators accountable. Guterres urged security agencies “to act at all times with maximum restraint.

He further advised the Federal Government to swiftly explore avenues to de-escalate the situation.

The Secretary-General reiterates the readiness of the United Nations to support national efforts towards finding a solution.

The UN chief expressed his condolences to the families of the bereaved and wished speedy recovery to those injured
