August 25, (THEWILL) – Bournemouth and Newcastle United drew 1-1 in an English Premier League match at the Vitality Stadium, on Sunday, with late drama as Bournemouth had a stoppage-time goal disallowed by VAR.

Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring for Bournemouth in the first half, giving the home side a deserved lead. The Cherries controlled much of the game but failed to extend their advantage. Anthony Gordon equalised for Newcastle with 14 minutes remaining, setting up an exciting finish.

In stoppage time, Bournemouth substitute Dango Ouattara, thought he had won the game, but his goal was ruled out after a VAR review showed the ball had struck his arm. The decision left Bournemouth frustrated, as they felt they had done enough to earn all three points.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, formerly in charge at Bournemouth, is still without an EPL victory against his old club. The draw keeps Newcastle within reach of the top teams, while Bournemouth remains without a win so far this season.

Bournemouth may have missed the impact of departed striker Dominic Solanke, who scored twice in this fixture last season. Debutant Evanilson had a golden opportunity to seal the win for Bournemouth in the 64th minute but missed the target.
